Tattoo Removal in Gatineau
DEFINITION: WHAT IS TATTOO REMOVAL?
How Does It Work?
Tattoo removal is a technique used for getting rid of amateur, professional and cosmetic tattoos without burning, abrasion or scarring. This laser combines power and short-pulse duration to distribute energy deep into the skin and break up pigments through photoacoustic shock waves. The particles are, thus, eliminated. The skin is cleaned by the patient's own scavenger cells, and residues are destroyed by the lymphatic system. If the cells are unable to absorb all the pigments, they eventually disappear deep into the dermis and become invisible to the naked eye. But does this technique work on all tattoos? The treatment's efficacy will depend on pigment depth, colour and composition, as well as the patient's skin type.

How many sessions are required to remove the tattoo or scars completely? This will depend on a number of factors, including:
- Pigment colour(s)
- The intensity and chemical composition of the tattoo
- Tattoo size
- Body location
- Speed and ease with which each individual is capable of eliminating the pigment
Tattoo size, pigment depth and pigment density (colours) are the key factors determining the number of sessions needed for optimal results.
Four to ten sessions may be required to remove the tattoo, with each session costing $200 or above depending on the area to be removed.
DOES IT HURT?
The feeling of pain varies from one individual to another. For the most sensitive ones, you may use an anesthetic cream (such as Emla®), as long as you carefully follow the instructions for use that your doctor will give you.
Apply a soothing or moisturizing cream immediately after the treatment to keep the treated area clean.
You may take a shower the following day, taking care not to rub the treated area. Additionally, you should carefully follow your beautician's recommendations.
WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?
Redness, white spots and small scabs may appear on the treated area in the days following the treatment, and the first results will be visible about 1 month after the session.
Depending on the skin and ink type and tattoo size, the removal protocol will be spread over 4 to 10 sessions.
A special cream is applied immediately after the session. The following day, the treated area must be kept dry so that the crust can dry quickly.
Once the crusts and scabs have fallen off (8-10 days), another cream is applied every morning and evening until the next session. The morning cream contains an SPF 50+ sunscreen.
